Am I Having an Anxiety Attack?

scream2

Do you feel all sorts of sensations like an irregular heart rate, dizziness, nausea or tremors, especially when you find yourself in a stressful situation?  Have you been feeling all of these for two weeks at least?  Then, it is highly likely that you are experiencing anxiety attacks.

All of us experience anxiety in our daily lives at varying degrees and each of us must ensure that we are equipped with whatever we need in order to deal with anxiety.  But if we continue to ignore whatever makes us feel anxious instead of courageously facing it, there is a high possibility for us to develop anxiety attacks later on.

Usually, anxiety attacks happen when there is a particular situation that causes us to feel stressed out.  For instance, if you find yourself laid off from the company you have worked with for so many years, it may be possible that you would feel anxious, especially when you have so many financial obligations like the mortgage for your house and a family to support.  A financial problem can definitely take a toll in you so much so that if you do not deal with it properly, then, chances are you would develop anxiety attacks.

The only sure-fire way of overcoming anxiety attacks is to assess the way you see and feel about yourself.  In the above example, if you see yourself as a person who would not be able to land a good job after being laid off, it is highly likely that you would feel low about yourself.  You would feel insecure and you would have no confidence left in you.  Thus, you would be more susceptible to anxiety and stress and if you do not change how you look at yourself soon, then, you would be developing anxiety attacks.

Changing your self-image and replacing it with an adequate and realistic one would help you overcome anxiety attacks.  So, if you are feeling low about yourself due to being laid off from the company you worked with, having a healthy way of seeing yourself would help you stop from feeling negatively about yourself.  You would able to turn your situation as an opportunity to make yourself better.  You would find ways that would help you improve.  For example, you would be more determined to upgrade your skills so, that you would be more marketable and attractive to employers.  And if you focus on your past successes, this would help you tap into your inner strength that would help you succeed no matter what.

If you are able to develop a good self-image, then, you would be able to live a life free from anxiety attacks.

Is Keeping Yourself Busy Enough for You to Deal with Anxiety and Stress?

anxiety

All of us experience stress and anxiety at some point in our lives but the difference here is that we experience different levels of these emotions.  Some of us can still go on with our daily lives while we cope with stress and anxiety but there are others who have a difficult time facing these so much so that they are unable to function normally.

There are a lot of ways that may help us deal with anxiety and stress and one of them is keeping yourself busy.  This may work for you as it keeps your attention on other things instead of you sitting alone and focusing on your own problems.  You can go to the gym to exercise.  You can visit your family and friends and catch up with them.  You can focus on finishing your work.

Keeping yourself distracted may be effective in dealing with anxiety and stress but the problem with it is that once you are done doing all of the things that you need to do and you find yourself idle, it is highly likely that you would return to thinking about your problems.  At the same time, distractions are just a way for you to actually avoid dealing with what you are feeling.  It does not exactly solve the problem.

The only way for you to truly overcome stress and anxiety is to assess the situations that trigger them and see if these are connected with how you see and feel about yourself.  You may have past experiences and embedded beliefs, which you have reacted to negatively, that are somehow related to situations in your life and that may be causing you a great deal of anxiety and stress.  You need to realize that your past experiences are already in the past and you would be able to ensure that they would not happen again.  As for beliefs that other people has embedded in you about you, assess if they are real or otherwise.  Usually, they are false so, it is best for you to let them go and by creating an adequate and realistic self-image, you would be able to know your real strengths and weaknesses.  Always bear in mind that you are the primary person who would know the real you.

Many of us think that the number one fear that people have is towards death.  But the truth is, most people fear social embarrassment.  Let’s face it.  Nobody wants to make one’s self a fool in front of other people.  And this is the main reason why many dislike public speaking.

But how do you overcome your fear of public speaking?  Here are some tips that you can apply next time you deliver a speech.

-         Choose a topic that is familiar to you.  This is important because if you are to share a topic that you know inside and out, a topic that you feel passionate about, you would be able to convey the message clearly to your audience.  You would be able to make them respond positively because you would be able to let them know how strongly you feel about what you would be talking about.

-         Practice makes perfect.  Practice delivering your speech in front of the mirror so, that you would be able to see and correct your facial expressions.  At the same time, it would be helpful if you have your family or friends sit with you as you deliver your speech in order to get feedback from them.

-         Know where you would be delivering your speech.  This is also important so, that you would get a feel of where you and your audience would be so, you would be able to make adjustments to make yourself more comfortable.

Do Natural Remedies Help You Cope with Panic Attacks

depression

If you are experiencing panic attacks and you go see a specialist, it is highly likely that he would prescribe you with medicinal drugs such as anti-depressants in order to help you cope with panic attacks.  But there are many problems when you actually do this.  First, doctor bills and prescription drugs cost a lot of money and you need a steady source of funds so, that you would be able to afford them.  Second, these drugs have side effects that are harmful to the body.  Third, prescription drugs are habit forming and so, it would hard for you to kick off the habit as you would experience withdrawal symptoms.

Due to these reasons, people have been looking for alternative ways in order to deal with panic attacks.  Some resort to deep breathing exercises while others resort to using natural remedies to help them cope with panic attacks.  And one of the natural herbs that you can use is chamomile.  Often, this herb is used to make tea.  Some people say that if you want to get yourself calm and relaxed, all you need to do is to sit down and enjoy a cup of chamomile tea while you talk with a family member or a close friend.

Using this method may help low levels of anxiety in a person but it may be difficult for this method to work if your anxiety is at a high level. And even if you consume gallons of chamomile tea when you feel an onset of a panic attack, chances are it would not work, especially if you continue to think about the sensations you are feeling during such an attack.

The only way for you to truly overcome panic attacks is to assess your self-image because this affects the way you behave towards yourself as well as other people.  In turn, your self-image is affected by your reaction towards your past experiences and embedded beliers.  If you reacted to them in a negative manner, you would have a distorted way of seeing and feeling about yourself.  You would be unsure about yourself.  You would easily get hot and bothered.  You would just continue avoiding your perceived unpleasant situations instead of facing them head-on.

If you would take your self-image and mold a new one that is adequate and realistic, you would be able to let go of whatever negative things you have in your mind about yourself and other people.  You would be able to learn from your mistakes, make sure that they never happen again and move on.  If you have a good self-image, then, you can truly say that your panic attacks do not have a hold on you anymore.

Are Sleep Disturbance and Anxiety Disorder Related?

generalanxiety

As we all know, sleep is very important as this is the time where our bodies can rest after a day filled with activity.  In fact, most adults require seven to eight hours of sleep in order to recharge their bodies and become ready for the next day.

However, recently, the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health in Helsinki, Finland conducted a study to find the connection between anxiety disorder and sleep problems.  In that study, about sixteen thousand, six hundred twenty seven men and women participated and it showed that those who have experienced a negative life event such as death in the family or an accident find it difficult to get some sleep as they feel so much anxiety and trauma from what they have experienced.  And this inability to sleep happens for a prolonged period of time that eventually creates a disturbance in a person’s life.

So, if you find yourself hard to sleep, examine the reason behind it and how it has affected the way you see and feel about yourself.  Check if the anxiety you are feeling is true or otherwise.  If you find out that it is something that you should not be worried about, then, you would surely be able to sleep properly.

Do Support Groups Help You in Dealing with Panic Attacks?

Human beings are natural social beings.  We cannot exist without other people.  This being the case, it is helpful for those who have panic attacks to share whatever they are feeling and going through with other people.

Primarily, the family is the one that provides the love, care and support to the affected person.  But the problem lies if the family is not willing to understand what the latter is going through, especially when the other family members have not experienced panic attacks for themselves.

And so, the affected person has the option to go to support groups where they can mix with other people who are also affected by psychological illnesses.  Here, they can share their ideas and feelings with people and at the same time, learn from others who are battling with such illnesses.

The problem in joining support groups lies where the affected person is afraid to share his feelings or he does not trust another being to understand him.  He might be thinking, “My family does not understand what I am going through.  Why should other people listen to what I have to say?”

The only way for you to truly overcome panic attacks is to examine how you see and feel about yourself.   Your self-image dictates how you behave and how you interact with other people.  In turn, your reaction to past experiences and embedded beliefs affect how you see and feel about yourself.  If you reacted to your past and beliefs negatively, chances are you have a distorted self-image.  You need to build an adequate and realistic way of seeing yourself and use your past successes to give you the courage, strength and determination to be freed from panic attacks.

A Way to Cope with Panic Attacks

There are many Websites that tell of how exercise can help reduce panic attack symptoms as the heightened sensations felt during such an attack are the same as what is also experienced during exercise.

Exercise can be good to the body as it helps us keep ourselves physically fit.  But there are a lot of us who says we cannot fit in exercise in our busy schedule.  This may be the case but the simplest way to exercise everyday is through walking.

So, if you happen to live near your office, it would best if you walk instead of catching a cab.  Another example is if you are going to a store near your house, walk instead of availing for delivery service.

Walking can definitely help you relieve stress and anxiety that you are feeling inside you.  At the same time, help you lessen environmental pollution.

The Costs of Depression and Other Psychological Illnesses

Before, cardiovascular diseases, asthma and diabetes were thought to cause high rates of absenteeism in employees as well as high costs in medical treatment.  But BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee has recently released a study that showed 11.5% of total workers suffer from depression, anxiety disorders and other psychological illnesses that cause a disruption in their normal, daily work routine.  In addition, these illnesses present far more costs in terms of medical treatment as both doctors’ fees and medicinal drugs are priced steeply and you need a reliable source of funds in order to avail them.

As you know, psychological illnesses such as depression causes an instability in the affected person’s mental and emotional health.  Thus, it makes them feel extreme sadness, anxiety and tension that are so insurmountable that they fail to enjoy anything.  They feel a lack of motivation.  They do not perceive anything as important.  All they want to do is to be left alone.  And because all of their attention is focused on themselves particularly on what they are feeling, this is when they resort to either not going to work or being at work but with a decreased amount of productivity.
